Thank you for this post! Time and again, either for simplicity or just wanting to try something new, I may have a vegetarian meal or even day. No matter how many veggies I eat, how much nuts, seeds, etc I ingest, I'm always left feeling weak and drained at the end of the day, or even within a couple of hours. Having a piece of grass fed beef with a huge side of greens left me feeling full of life throughout the day.

Great post! You nailed my nutritional philosophy to the letter, of course you have also sourced all of my nutritional hero's (Jonny Bowden, Micheal Eades, Charles Poliquin, Lierre Keith, Mark Houston) so I respect your thinking even more :-) No seriously, I agree that anyone can find studies/gurus to support any type of thinking; but I have learned from and attended conferences with many of the above mentioned nutritional pioneers for over a decade. They have my utmost respect when it comes to really understanding nutritional physiology. When people look at actual biochemistry and begin to understand what happens on a hormonal/metabolic level your words are spot on. Well said and keep up the good work!

Very good post Kat. I know I just feel better when I eat meat. If I eat a meal without it I can tell the difference. I don't feel good and get hungry much faster because it takes meat longer to digest. Looking forward to part 2.

Definitely meat with good quality fat otherwise can lead to rabbit starvation.

Hi Otto; Sue -
I absolutely believe that meat is the FIRST food. Along with good quality fat. My research has taught me that an all-meat diet (for example) with no fat would cause illness and poor health, although not weight gain. In nature meat always comes with fat. Plants and indeed all carbohydrate are a far third in my book. As far as environmental sustainability goes, I believe it's far more natural to sustain properly farmed animals (factory farmed and grain-fed are another issue) than what it is to cultivate plant-food. This is what nature intended. I don't agree that we are designed to eat plants first.

I think the meat comes first and then the plants follow and so meat should be at the top and veggies and fruit second level. If someone is avoiding grains then they need to have calorie dense meat in their meals. In Mexico what else are they eating with their meat, how is it prepared etc.
I say give the body what it wants - protein and fat and eat less of the non-essential carbohydrates.
